The only problem is that Betty and the Black Hood use contrasting methods. Obviously, the masked vigilante resorted to killing people while Betty preferred to do settle issues in a civil manner. Through the course of the episode titled “When a Stranger Calls,” the Black Hood technically had Betty doing everything he wanted or face dire consequences.
Polly Cooper (Tiera Skovbye) was singled out as one of the people who went astray and the Black Hood told Betty that her sister was on the list. Looking out for the safety of Polly, Betty played along with the masked vigilante where only Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) knew about the mysterious phone calls.
Will things get blacker for Betty?
With the manipulation being done by the Black Hood, one can almost sense Betty moving towards the dark side. All that was seen in season one of “Riverdale” and rumors swirled about seeing that malicious side of Betty once again.
As “Riverdale” Chapter 18 came to a close, Betty was once again asked to give a name who went astray. She eventually mentioned Nick St. Clair (Graham Phillips) who almost took advantage of a drugged Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch).
When Betty said the name, there was a different look in her eyes. She obviously wanted revenge for Cheryl but will this stand when Chapter 19 unfolds?
Another notable development was the forced breakup between Betty and Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse). With the Black Hood also having Jughead on the list, splitting up was the only way to save Juggy from possible harm.
With the conditions set, Juggy and Betty could eventually reconcile. But things may have gotten complicated with Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) entering the fray. That sensual kiss after the Southside Serpents final initiation likely sent Bughead fans into a frenzy.
With things getting darker for Betty, figuring out who the Black Hood is still up in the air. There is growing belief that it is Chic Cooper (Hart Denton). The displaced brother of Betty is not due to emerge until Chapter 23 titled “The Blackboard Jungle.”
Aside from Chic, there is one person who many may have forgotten – Chuck Clayton (Jordan Calloway). If there is anyone who has a motive, it would be the football star who was technically behind the birth of Black Betty.
The last time “Riverdale” fans saw him was in Chapter 10: The Lost Weekend back in season one. Archie hosted a birthday party for Jughead with Cheryl and Chuck crashing the party. Things did get messy with Chuck and Jughead going at it. FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich) eventually grabbed Chuck by the collar and showed him the door.
Things should get interesting in Chapter 19 titled “Death Proof.” “Riverdale” returns on Wednesday on The CW. Check out the trailer below.
