NFL sophomore Paxton Lynch is oozing with potential and much of that is currently showing this preseason. He has been making quite an impression as of late, begging to ask if Trevor Siemian’s starting job is in peril.

Lynch has been doing a great job in the joint practices by the Denver Broncos and the San Francisco 49ers. According to the Denver Post, Lynch has been showing his brilliance by completing all of his 12 passes during the 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills. The performance earned him the nod to start for Denver this Saturday, a big development that may lead to bigger things.

Outperforming Siemian not intentional

While his performance is exceptional, Lynch explains that he is just trying to get better as a player. There is no pressure on his part, meaning he is not really after the starting job currently held by Trevor Siemian.

The thing here is that even if he is not after the starting quarterback chores, his outstanding performance could get coach Vance Joseph think about a switch. At this point, it may be too early to tell.

As far as general manager John Elway is concerned, the progress may be attributed to the different level of confidence the 2016 first round pick has been showing. He believes that as long as Lynch holds on to that, he will be more successful.

It’s preseason, not regular season

The NFL preseason is a great way to gauge who deserves to start for any team. Lynch has that potential though it may be too early to give him the opportunity.

All that depends on what Joseph feels and if Siemian suffers from injury or poor play. Like Lynch, the 25-year-old has been doing great in the preseason. At this rate, there may be no major changes to roles at least for now.

Lynch will get his time to start at one point. His success in the preseason is a good sign as the Broncos try to rev up their quarterback rotation moving forward. It has become a glaring hole since the retirement of Peyton Manning and Siemian has so far done a great job picking up from where the retired quarterback left off.

Lynch was selected by the Broncos with most believing he will someday inherit the role. Like most aspiring quarterbacks, he will eventually get there. Heading into his second season, he may have a shot at being a starter, depending on the situation and call of Joseph.

A lot of players are expected to impress in the preseason but the real challenge is in the regular season. The atmosphere and level of play changes at that point and the Broncos coaching staff are likely to stick it out with a proven player before gambling on a rising player in Lynch.
