A young star from “13 Reasons Why” has joined the X-Men spinoff movie “New Mutants. Henry Zaga has been cast in the role of Sunspot.

Sunspot, in the comic book series, has the ability to absorb powers solar energy from the Sun. He was briefly seen in “X2: X-Men United.”

Zaga will join previously tapped actors to play the young mutants. Maisie Williams from “Game of Thrones” and Anya Taylor-Joy from “Split” have already been cast in early May. Williams will play Scots girl Wolfsbane, who has the ability to turn into a werewolf. Taylor-Joy will play Russian teen Magik, who knows sorcery, as per Hollywood Reporter.

“Stranger Things” actor Charlie Heaton also recently snagged the part of Cannonball who has the ability to take flight at high speed. The only thing missing to complete this merry band of young misfits is the casting of an alien named Warlock but this character’s casting should be announced real soon.

“New Mutants” carry a horror/thriller theme. It will delve of young people with special powers who are all locked in a secrret facility. These youngsters, who have been locked against their will, are not aware of their powers until they become teenagers. This is a superhero movie that’s not about becoming saviors; it is about young misfits trying to survive, as per Variety.

This will be Zaga’s first major feature film following the actor’s work on the sleeper Netflix young adult series “13 Reasons Why.” The actor was also in the “Teen Wolf” TV series.

The movie directed by Josh Boone, who also co-wrote the script with Knate Lee. Filming is expected to begin in July. If all goes well, “New Mutants” will be on the big screen by April 13, 2018.
