‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Gets Another Spinoff About Firefighters

“Grey’s Anatomy” is getting another spinoff on ABC. Years after the cancellation of “,” a new show from its mother series will be developed for airing in 2018. This time, it will focus on firefighters from Seattle, the show’s location.

ABC Network president Channing Dungey confirmed the spinoff during the upfronts presentation Monday. Viewers will be introduced to the characters in one episode of the season 14 of “Grey’s Anatomy,” which begins its run this fall, as per E! News.

“Grey’s Anatomy” executive producer Stacy McKee will take charge of developing the spinoff show, which doesn’t have a title just yet. executive , the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy” will also be involved as well as another writer, Betsy Beers.

“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda [Rhimes], and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” Dungey said in a statement as per TV Line.  It’s expected that the spinoff will take over the timeslot of “How To Get Away With Murder,” which is also another show from Shondaland.

In 2007, banking on the success of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Rhimes and her team of writers created “Private Practice.” It starred Kate Walsh, who played Dr. Addison Montgomery. Montgomery was one of the main characters in the first three seasons of the mother series.

“Private Practice” went on for six seasons until 2013. The series also starred Tim Daly, Audra McDonald, Paul Adelstein, KaDee Strickland, Taye Diggs, Amy Brenneman and Chris Lowell.
