The CW is slowly setting its plans for the “Dynasty” reboot, the ’80s drama series about the lives of the rich. Nathalie Kelley, who is currently starring in “The Vampire Diaries,” has been cast as the family drama’s ultimate villain.

Kelley will play the role of Cristal, a Hispanic woman who marries into an American de buena familia. The “Dynasty” reboot will follow the Carringtons and the Colbies, who are the featured families of the old drama series. This time, however, the story will revolve around the next generation, the grandchildren and will be set in the current timeline.

According to TV Line, the “Dynasty” reboot will also feature a diversified cast of actors. More casting announcements are expected in the next few weeks.

The news comes as “The Vampire Diaries” will soon bow out of television this March. It’s still unclear, however, what the lead stars like Ian Somerholder or Paul Wesley plan to do next. Together with Kat Grahahm and Candice King, these actors were on the show for eight seasons.

Meanwhile, “Dynasty” aired for nine seasons on ABC. The CW reboot will be handled by Sallie Patrick, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who will serve as writers and executive producers. Schwartz is familiar to viewers as the creator of “Gossip Girl.”
