Riddick Is Coming To Television, Vin Diesel Inks Deal With Universal TV
Vin Diesel’s popular movie character, Riddick, is heading to the small screen as the actor signed a pact with Universal to develop a series based on the sci-fi franchise.
According to Variety, the actor will be producing “Riddick” as a TV show under his One Race outfit. This will be the company’s first TV project since its establishment in 1995. The actor has also hired Shana C. Waterman for his production company’s television division, per Deadline.
One Race has had much successes with the “Fast & Furious” franchise and also produced “Pitch Black,” “Chronicles of Riddick” and “Riddick” for the big screen.
IGN reported that the “Riddick” series will actually be called “Merc City,” which “will follow the Mercs and Bounty Hunters of the Riddick Universe.” The report doesn’t say if the actor will also be joining the TV show or will only be working in the background.
“In addition to being a huge star for our feature division, Vin is a true creative force as a producer. After sitting down with him and his team at One Race Television, it’s clear he will now also be an incredible asset to both the network and our television studio” said Universal and NBC Entertainment executive Jennifer Salke in a press release. “We feel really fortunate to be in business with, not only an international powerhouse, but a truly thoughtful and passionate producer.”
