Jason Statham To Lead And Produce ‘Viva La Madness’ TV Series

Jason_Statham_2007“The Transporter” star Jason Statham is heading to television in what would be his very first TV show.

According to Deadline, Statham will be starring and producing “Viva La Madness,” which is based on a book written by J.J. Connolly. The same book was the inspiration for the 2004 film “Layer Cake” that starred Danie Craig.

The TV show will center on an anonymous hero who becomes stranded in the Caribbean. He’s “itching for the criminal life he left behind–but he’s still a wanted man back home. Soon he joins forces with two robust London gangsters: the menacing Sonny King and his paranoid partner Roy “Twitchy” Burns,” according to the Deadline report.

Also producing the series along with the actor is Steven Chasman. Connolly is also attached as the show’s writer, according to Variety. No network has been tapped for the show just yet.

“The way J.J. writes is so on the ball and authentic its hard to let any of it go. Trying to lose characters or shave down scenes every other page didn’t work, we wanted it all. The best place was a 10 hour plus show that lets you fully disappear into Connolly’s world,”said the actor about the project, which was originally intended to become a movie.
