One of the former cast members of “The Walking Dead,” Jon Bernthal, has joined the second season of “Marvel’s Daredevil,” which comes from the streaming site Netflix. The season is set to return in 2016.
Bernthal will play the role of The Punisher, a favorite and popular Marvel character, who, like Daredevil, is a vigilante in Hell’s Kitchen in New York City. In the past, live-action films have depicted him through actors like Ray Stevenson in 2008, Thomas Jane in 2004 and Dolph Lundgren in 1989.
The Punisher is the alter ego of Frank Castle and in the comic book series, his character was introduced in “Amazing Spider-Man” in the ’70s. Castle from the military, who had the unfortunate experience of losing his family in a violence perpetuated by the mob. As a vigilante, The Punisher is known to use lethal force and use it very often against criminals.
“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” remarked Jeph Loeb the head of television for Marvel in the press release. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”
Aside from starring on “The Walking Dead” for two seasons as Shane Walsh, Bernthal has also appeared in blockbuster movies like “Fury” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” and will soon be seen in the film “The Accountant.
“Marvel’s Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox as the blind vigilante Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawson and Elden Henson.
